Employee Case Studies
Niall Power, Operating Department Practitioner, The Rivers Hospital, Sawbridgeworth
Having spent 26 years in the NHS followed by 2 years at a Saudi Armed Forces Hospital, I returned to the UK unsure where I wanted to work. After doing some bank shifts at The Rivers Hospital, I knew that this was the type of working environment that I wanted to be part of.
Over the past 4 years, I have taken an active role in the development and progression of the department and have had the opportunity to undertake a wide range of courses which is something that the Ramsay group encourages throughout. I enjoy being part of a team who all have the same objective which is to deliver the best care and feeling of confidence to our patients. I believe that Ramsay will always be a leading employer because managers really do listen to ideas and recommendations and will act upon them if possible.
Amy Simpson, General Manager, Oaks Hospital, Colchester
Prior to joining Ramsay, I was the Director of a small environmental consultancy which advised healthcare facilities on effective waste management practice. Whilst this was very enjoyable, I joined Ramsay as I saw an opportunity to get involved with a corporation, on the ground floor, where I might be able to advance my business career.
I joined Ramsay as PA to the Senior Management Team at Springfield Hospital in Chelmsford and was lucky to find a few individuals who were willing to mentor me. After 2 years, I was promoted to Support Services Manager, responsible for a range of non-clinical services within the hospital and 18 months later, I was successful in my application to join the Ramsay Academy Leadership Programme and have since then become General Manager at Oaks Hospital.
I have a strong academic background and have completed my MBA with Henley Business School. The leadership programme supported my academic learning by giving me exposure to the entire organisation. I am really enjoyed learning about the strategies that will guide Ramsay over the coming years
