Half A Century Of The Harriss Family at Rivers Hospital
Tuesday 21 June 2016

Rachel Harris and her husband John have just completed a total of 40 years service between them, John in January and Rachel in May. Add to that the years that their daughters Michelle and Clare worked for Rivers and they have clocked up nearly 50 years as a family. At one stage Rivers was affectionately known as the 'Harriss Hospital' because the whole family worked there! John and Rachel both started in 1996, Rachel as Outpatient Receptionist, changing roles to Bookings and Reception Lead to her current position of Premium Care and Customer Enquiries Lead, and John as Deputy Hospital Engineer. Rachel said "Back then it was a much smaller hospital on a smaller site and it had a very local feel to it. We have watched the hospital grow dramatically over the years". Rachel recalls the many developments over the last 20 years including the fourth theatre and the extension to the Wards. John and Rachel have seen four different General Managers and four Matrons. When asked what had kept them at Rivers for so long, Rachel said the close working relationships with colleagues and the friendly atmosphere.

Andy Haysman, General Manager at Rivers Hospital said “John and Rachel have made a huge contribution to the success of Rivers over the years. They are a credit to us and I want to thank them officially for all their hard work".
