A £5.1M development at Rivers Hospital was officially opened on Thursday 26 October, by Sir Rod Stewart and his wife Lady Penny Stewart. A celebration event was held at the hospital, in the 25th anniversary year of the Rivers opening in 1992. The Mayor of Sawbridgeworth, Cllr Ruth Buckmaster, along with her husband Cllr Eric Buckmaster, also officiated at the event, where a commemorative plaque was unveiled in the new operating theatre and day unit.
The new facilities will benefit local patients including an additional state of the art digitally integrated operating theatre, a new ambulatory ward for day case patients , with minor operations suite , fully serviced recovery department, and dedicated reception area, as well as extra space for on-site car parking.
The extended facilities also provide career opportunities for health professionals, and support workers.
Mr Andy Haysman, Regional Director of Ramsay Health Care UK East Region said “The team at Rivers Hospital has always offered patients a high level of customer care, which has been recognised by thousands of patients who have been successfully treated over the past 25 years. The new facilities will help us provide the best possible environment for patients and consultants into the future.”
Lady Penny’s mother Sally Lancaster worked at the Rivers for several years, and is still in touch with many members of staff at the hospital.
